How it works

Three steps. Then it runs itself.

Community solar lets you subscribe to a share of a local solar project and receive solar credits on your CMP bill. Those credits reduce what you owe CMP each month.

1

Enroll in about two minutes

Sign up online or over the phone. No credit check, no equipment to buy, and no panels installed at your property.

2

A local Maine project powers the grid

As your assigned project generates energy, your share of its output produces solar credits. One of these projects is being developed right here in Standish.

3

Credits reduce your CMP bill

CMP applies your solar credits to your monthly bill, lowering what you owe them. You save a guaranteed 15% on the value of every credit applied.

Solar Simplified does not conduct door-to-door sales. If anyone approaches your home or business claiming to represent this program, please contact Solar Simplified at (888) 420-9831 or the Town to verify before sharing any information.

Who qualifies

Open to homes and businesses across Standish.

If you're a Central Maine Power customer in Standish, you can enroll and save a guaranteed 15% on every solar credit applied to your bill. You don't need to own your home or your building, and nothing is installed at your property.

Enrollment is open now on a first-come, first-served basis, and the first available projects are expected to come online this fall.

You can enroll if…

  • You pay a CMP bill in Standish, whether you're a homeowner or a renter.
  • You run a local business on a CMP account. Commercial accounts are eligible on the same terms.

There is no income requirement and no credit check. You'll need your CMP account number, which appears on your monthly bill.

Questions

What Standish residents ask us most.

Do I need to install solar panels?

No. No panels are installed at your home or business and no equipment is attached to your property. You're subscribing to a share of a local Maine solar project, which is why renters and tenants can participate just as easily as owners.

What does it cost to join, and can I cancel?

Nothing. There are no enrollment fees, no upfront payments, no credit checks, and no long-term commitment. You can cancel at any time with no fees or penalties.

How does the billing work?

You'll receive two bills each month. Your CMP bill shows the solar credits that reduce what you owe CMP, and Solar Simplified bills you separately for those credits at 15% below their value.

Your Solar Simplified bill is always less than the credits you received, so the two together always leave you ahead. Here is what a month with a $100 solar credit looks like:

Your CMP bill goes down by−$100.00
You pay Solar Simplified+$85.00
You save$15.00
When will I start seeing savings?

Savings begin once your assigned project is producing energy. The first CMP projects available to subscribers are expected to come online this fall. Enrollment is first-come, first-served, so signing up early reserves your place.

Does anything change about my CMP service?

No. You continue to receive service from CMP exactly as you do today, with no change to your utility or your reliability. Solar Simplified is not an alternative electricity supplier. Community solar is a state-approved program regulated by the Maine Public Utilities Commission, and participation is voluntary.

Why is the Town sharing this information?

The Town of Standish is helping residents and businesses learn about a state-regulated program available to CMP customers, similar to how it shares information about other state programs that offer benefits locally.

Solar Simplified covers all campaign costs, including the mailer. No resident tax dollars are used. For each resident who enrolls, Solar Simplified also provides a small civic contribution to the Town, used to support local community programs or donated to a local nonprofit of the Town's choosing.

Does Solar Simplified sell door to door?

No. Solar Simplified does not conduct door-to-door sales. If someone comes to your home or business claiming to represent this program, do not share your account information. Contact us at (888) 420-9831 or contact the Town to verify first.
